We are delighted to welcome our newest member to the team, Ciaran Rourke. Ciaran joins us on a Modern Apprecticeship course and has already been busy over the past month helping our customers with IT issues and studying towards his upcoming exams.

If you haven't had the pleasure of talking to Ciaran already we're sure you will in the near future, as Ciaran will often be the first point of contact for customers calling the Helpdesk.

It's been a busy few months for us in 2012, and this recent addition to our team reflects this.

We've moved!

We've had a hectic weekend at m3 moving office to Inveralmond Business Centre on Auld Bond Road in Perth.

We're really excited and feel this is a big step forward for the company. We'll be hosting an open office afternoon next week sometime so it would be great if you could pop along for a coffee and say hello. Watch this space for details.

Security at your finger tips

We recently started using a finger print identity solution in the m3 Networks office in Perth and we are now able to offer these solutions to our customers.

The short explanation of how it works; you have a USB finger print reader on your desk. When you come to login to the network you simply touch your finger on the reader and you are magically logged in, without having to type a username or password. The system can also store login credentials for all the websites that you regularly have to login to.

If that's not enough for you then here comes the techy bit; the system takes an optical image of your finger print and converts this to a 168-bit military strength encrypted password. The system integrates with Active Directory on your Windows server to authenticate your credentials.

But wait, there's more!

The system also has the ability to allow you to send signed and encrypted emails from Outlook, and also allows you to digitally sign Office documents to ensure authenticity and restrict access to only the users you want to access the file. Even if someone gained access to your account they would still be unable to open any encrypted files without your finger print.

Sounds expensive? Well, it is a little bit, however take a moment to consider this scenario; you're an accountant and you lose a company laptop. The laptop contains the financial data of a couple of your customers. The laptop isn't secure, the data isn't encrypted. If the rest of your customers find out about this, what do you think would happen? Bye bye, c'ya! Sound expensive now?
