Despite 2011 being one of the worst on record for hacking and data breaches, users continue to employ extremely common passwords.

A list of the most commonly used passwords seen over the last year has been drawn up by Splashdata and reported in Mashable.

Incredibly, the most common password in use today is "password".

TOP TIP: To create a strong password that's difficult for hacking programs to crack - employ a symbol in combination with an upper-case and a lower-case letter.

Better still; eliminate passwords completely! Implement a biometric sign on solution using fingerprints.
